About Us

Letchers Solicitors has an impressive history. Our Firm was originally founded in 1825 and was self-titled R. Davy after its founder Robert Davy. It remained in his family for some 71-years until Henry Davy retired in 1896 and sold the firm to Arthur Jackson, whose family, it is believed, had been involved with the legal profession since 1697. Following Arthur's purchase of R. Davy he proceeded to open a number of offices including Ringwood and Fordingbridge. When his two sons were admitted as solicitors he renamed the firm Jackson & Son.

A few years later Dr Percy Letcher joined the firm and subsequently ran the Ringwood office. His son Peter qualified as a solicitor in 1948 as did Arthur's grandson in 1951. In 1952, following an amicable agreement between the two families they divided the firm with Letcher & Son remaining in Ringwood and Jackson & Son continuing their practice in the Fordingbridge office.

Following the retirement of Peter Letcher in 1991 management and ownership was passed to Michael Wingate-Saul and finally to Michael G Stocken in 2005. This prestigious firm, re-branded Letchers Solicitors, will continue to provide legal services of the highest quality.
