Elderly clients

Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA)

No matter what your age there may come a time when making decisions about your financial affairs becomes difficult. You may require help writing cheques, managing your finances and making arrangements for your care.

A property and affairs LPA will enable you to appoint someone you trust to have legal responsibility to act on your behalf in this regard. Furthermore, you will be able to make provisions concerning the extent of this responsibility and the date when it should come into effect.

A personal welfare LPA will enable you to appoint somebody with authority to make decisions on your behalf about medical treatment, if you are unable to make those decisions yourself.

Office of Public Guardians

If you have an elderly or disabled relative or a friend who has lost mental capacity and can no longer manage their property and affairs, it may be necessary for an application to be made to the court for a person to be appointed to be responsible for them. At Letchers Solicitors, we can help you with the application process and can advise you about your responsibilities as a Deputy.

We can also help you with the preparation of deputy accounts and annual tax returns.

Care Home and Funding Issues

If you or an elderly relative are considering residential or nursing care or are already in nursing care and anxious about funding and your rights, we have solicitors in our team who are members of 'Solicitors for the Elderly'. This is a highly respected association, which specialises in these and other elderly client issues.
